a typical day
“When Mummy takes me to the front entrance I meet my teacher, and I show Mummy where I hang my
coat and put my bag away. I’m from green square group, which is where I go to meet all my friends. I
can recognise my name card now and sit where I find it. When Jonathan and Lucy arrive I chat about
what I did at the weekend until we are all ready.
I show them my new blue elephant toy,
because this week we are learning blue things.
We share news with each other: Lucy’s has a
new sister and Jonathan’s grandma has come
from Canada. I then go to the Montessori
room. Today I want to find out about ‘the pink
tower’. You have to put each bit in exactly the
right order, so I have to look at the size of
each block very carefully.
Then I want to have a look at the sandpaper
letters, (but I put the pink tower away first).
I like the letter ‘s’ because it has two curves
in it! Then I try writing the two curves in the
sand tray. I like painting too in the small room
and I splash the paint all over the paper and
even on me - oops!
Today we are looking at these things our teacher called ‘slugs’ – I like them because they are all slimy.
(Tomorrow we are going to decorate gingerbread men with icing.)
Then I notice Wendy needs help with the railway, so I go and help her. Then I hear the ‘tidy up’ music and we all join in to put things
away. We all go and sit on the carpet in a big circle and today we are doing fun yoga, but yesterday we did singing. Afterwards, we
wash our hands and open our lunch boxes. There are three others in my group. We all go out to play and I like to water the
strawberries – they are almost red. Can I eat them yet? Today we played running under the ‘parachute’. You have to catch the person
in front of you. (I am very good at it!) Now it is time to go in, which means it is story time. We listen to ‘ The Gruffalo’s Child’. We all
sing the good-bye song loudly. When I see Mummy waiting for me I give her a big wave, and run and hug her.”
